Our Mural

This design for Whakamārama School is a story of heart, place, and community. At the base is Mauao, the sacred tūpuna maunga of Tauranga Moana, an anchor of identity and belonging. At its centre stands a strong pou adorned with poutama which signifies the growth, learning and achievement of the students. Just as the community surrounds and supports the school, so too does the kowhaiwhai which unfurls and grows skyward, reflecting the embrace of aroha within the tamariki, whānau, and hāpori alike.

Ko te manawa-ū, kia rere, kia tīna

The design is a steadfast reminder that Whakamārama learners are actively involved, empowered, and thriving. It celebrates environmental wellbeing, the uniqueness of every child, and the collective strength of the community.
