With the support of volunteers, our kura teaches our learners the knowledge and skills that have a transformative and lifelong impact on their hauora — wellbeing — and on the world around them.
What makes ‘Garden to Table’ interesting for our learners is that they are actively using all 5 senses and relating these back to what they already know. Having gardens producing food on our school grounds created and cared for by our learners provides them with a sense of pride and ownership.
Each week, groups of learners head to the either the garden or the kitchen. During this time, our students learn key gardening and kitchen skills that will last a lifetime. At the end of each session, our groups of learners unite to taste what has been prepared in the kitchen - from the mahi comes the kai! The groups swap over the following week to allow equal learning in each area.
Our Year 2-8 learners experience 12 weeks of enthusiastically get their hands dirty and learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh seasonal food.
